EXCLUSIVE ARTIST INTERVIEW: UPRUSH | PERFORMING JULY 8TH AT BAR NINE
In anticipation of her live show with us on July 8th at 8PM, Uprush was nice enough to email us from her home-base to discuss their musical influences, live show experience, and what inspires them on a day-to-day basis
BAR NINE: What type of band are you?
UPRUSH: We are a 4 piece cover band specializing in an Hammond organ style sound!
BN: Tell us the brief history of your band
U: Alli, Adam, and Luis were in a previous band together and when Alli decided she wanted to branch out and start her own band, the boys came along for the ride! She met Alex in December at a show at Arlene's Grocery where they were both playing. When she needed keys she knew Alex was amazing and just had to have him play with them! Alex mentioned playing the organ and giving the band a different twist than anything else thats out there right now
BN: What are your dreams and goals?
U: We just want to play amazing, fun music that appeals to everyone and do it different and better than any of the other cover bands out there!
BN: Who writes the songs, what are they about?
U: We do mostly covers but everyone writes as well. Originals to come in the possible future!
BN: How do you promote your band and shows?
U: Right now, we are brand new and just going off of word of mouth!
BN: Describe your show, visual and musically
U: We are fun and you can tell we like to have fun when we play. We have a sexy, positive energy that i think everyone can gravitate towards
BN: What do you think about downloading music online?
U: As long as it's done legally, go for it!
BN: What's your claim to fame?
U: Our organ and cool re-worked versions of well known songs!
BN: Tell us about a day in your life
U: We all live pretty different lives! Some of us work regular 9-5 jobs, some of us teach music. At the end of the day, we all just want to be making music and having a cocktail! We love cocktails!
BN: What inspires you to do what you do?
U: We just wanna make good music and inspire others. If we can change the mood of one person who comes to see us play, that's a win for us!
BN: What advice would you give to fellow bands?
U: Stay the course, stay persistent and make sure you love what you're doing because if you don't, what's the point!
BN: What are some of your pet peeves?
BN: How does music affect you and the world around you?
U: I think music affects us all slightly different but a commonality we all share if how music makes us all collectively feel better and happier no matter what our "feel good" preferences are
BN: What's the best and worst thing about playing clubs?
U: The best thing is the energy and the people that come out to support you, especially our family and friends. I would say the worst thing is the lack of compensation out there. It's really hard to be compensated for what you're actually worth
BN: Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there
U: Who doesn't wanna come out and listen to some Britney Spears and Marvin Gaye and Bruce Springsteen all in one set!? Come out and dance!
